Resuming On A Positively High Note
Jul 31, 2017
Positively High resumed from a spell at Racing.com Park and stepped out on to the track with the ultimate gear change, he was now gelded. A son of High Chaparral, there was always a query would he be good enough to win over 1400m or was this a stepping stone to a longer distance race.
Contesting the Shanks Electrical 3YO Maiden Plate over 1400m with Mark Zahra booked to ride the pair would jump from barrier six. Jumping away well Zahra eased the gelding towards the rear of the field were he relaxed throughout the run. Coming in to the final bend Zahra eased Positively High out into the centre of the track and once balanced up in the straight went for home. They went on to win by 0.2L.
Post race Mick said "I think he won like a nice horse. Where he was throughout running, he really set a task for himself. He did look to hang on one rein into the straight but I do think he's going to be a nice horse over 2000m. He's an impressive type, he's well bred, he's good winded and his gelded so he looks to have a nice future. He appreciated the nice big track, he's still learning but I think he's a horse with nice potential and it was good to see him win."
Jockey Mark Zahra said "he was good, he's really green and dumb still, they went steady and it was good to see him build momentum and finish the race off well. I was in the right spot to get momentum, I just wasn't sure if he had the smarts to switch on and if he would lengthen. He did lengthen from hard riding on both sides and it was a good win."
