Makfi X Zago
1 year old Bay Filly
Sire: Makfi Dam: Zago
A tough staying filly by MAKFI purchased at Karaka.
Sired by Makfi, he is a son of the world famous Dubawi. Makfi is really starting to come into his own producing progeny such as Bonneval (3 Group One's), Sofia Rosa and Marky Mark (both Group One winners) to name a few. Not only successful in the breeding barn, Makfi winning two Group Ones, the Deauville Prix Jacques Le Marois over 1600m beating Goldikova and Paco Boy), and the Group One The Two Thousand Guineas over 1600m beating Dick Turpin and Canford Cliffs.
Important to note that Bonneval is bred on the same cross as this filly, both out of Zabeel mares.
The dam Zago, a daughter of Zabeel, she was a winner on the track over 1850m to 2400m. She is a three quarter sister to Black Type winners Hades (Helene Vitality - HK). Other names to feature down the dams page include Everbright, Katchmekate and the more recently raced Nurse Kitchen.
"This filly here, is one out of left field! We are not buying her to be a two-year-old, she looks to be a tough, strong filly with a big bold Zabeel head. I really like her.. Big, strong, real staying type of horse. She will probably be an Autumn three-year-old and develop into a beautiful big mare. She is a real product of New Zealand. She is a cheap buy for what is going to be a big tough mare... Makfi can get a Group One horse, and we know the Zabeel cross works with Bonneval" Trainer Mick Price..
