Dam: Prickley Princess
Foaled: Oct 16, 2017
Country: New Zealand
This gelding, sired by Redwood, he is a Group One winning son of High Chaparral – a sire line that has had amazing success in Australia so far (So You Think, Dundeel, etc) – and from only a limited number of runners Redwood is already the sire of Group One horses Night’s Watch, Rising Red and Romancer. This gelding was purchased from the recent Inglis Ready To Run auction for $75,000.
Redwood raced on 17 occasions with 16 of those starts in black-type company – retiring with four wins and seven placings and an impressive stakes tally of US$2,335,995. Redwood’s first crop of yearlings sold for up to $210,000. A breeding cross similar to this gelding is the High Chaparral x Thorn Park cross is responsible for Group One performer Soubrettes.

The dam Prickley Princess, is a daughter of Thorn Park. A four time winner, she won over distances of 1400m to 1800m. Only a young broodmare, she is the dam of one foal to race for one winner! The dams page is filled with Group One performers with Group One winner Pondorosa Miss (High Chaparral) and Million Dollar Earner Ecuador (High Chapparal), placed 3 times at Group One level, both out of the Second Dam.
Did you notice the theme here? BOTH G1 HORSES IN THE SECOND DAM ARE BY HIGH CHAPARRAL – the sire of REDWOOD!
In the Third Dam is Cox Plate contender TE AKAU SHARK who was beaten a nose into 2nd at his last start in the G1 Epsom and is a Live Chance in the Cox Plate today.
For this auction we thought we would try something new.. Using Science, looking at the physiology of the horse we have gathered an extensive analysis using data from an American company who specialise in breeze-ups and the biomechanics of the horse. Mick met up with one of Michael Kent Jnr’s contact Jay Kilgour of http://www.biodatatrack.com to discuss the physiology of the horse. Jay studies the catalogue and we were able to secure a lot that rated highly using Jay’s analysis.
At this sale the average stride length was 23.63ft…but THIS 2YO’S STRIDE IS A MASSIVE 26.44ft! That means he is covering almost 3ft more than the average horse every time he takes one stride. His action is also very efficient – with no high-knee, curl or climbing.
And he is quick too – breezing over 200m in a very slick 10.74 seconds whilst jumping shadows twice during his gallop!
*The analysis provided also includes body measurements to determine the biomechanics of the animal and this horse rates in the elite range with EXCELLENT ratings for ‘Mechanics’, ‘Power’, ‘Geometry’ and ‘Stride Extension’.*
*This gives him an advantage due to the fact horses can only breathe once per stride; so the longer the horse strides the longer it has to intake oxygen to get to the working muscles. And hence the reason all good horses have big strides.*
The gelding has been broken in, spelled, pre trained and completed his breeze up in 10.74 seconds. He is now spelling for a month at Monomeith Stud Farm and will then be brought back into pre training. Once he has completed his pre training he will then come into our Caulfield stable.
Ownership opportunities include purchase price and GST, all vet checks, transport from sale, 12 months mortality insurance, agistment and agent fee.
