“…He is a lovely strong bay colt. We know the family well, look Shamus Award led all the way in a Cox Plate as a 3yo so he was a great horse himself and out of a fast Exceed and Excel mare and I like the cross. Shindig the second dam won a Group 1 and threw a Group 1 winner in Shinzig who we had here for a little while and he won the CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield. This horse reminds me a little bit of him. He is pretty boisterous and he is an early foal and is full of himself. A bold colt with great bone, great feet and great knees. You will see that beautiful head carriage and good walking colt with good drive from behind. We think he may make a 2yo but if not I am sure he will furnish into a magnificent 3yo. He has a very high Matchem DNA rating and clean x-rays. He is a big, strong, powerful, lovely colt. We really like him…” Mick Price

Shamus Award is a highly credentialed first season sire. Snitzel is one of Australia’s premier sires with an impressive progeny record including:

  • Dual Group 1 winner of the MVRC Cox Plate & VRC Australian Guineas
  • Champion 3yo colt in Australia 2013 / 14
  • World Thoroughbred Ranking of 118
  • By Australia’s leading sire Snitzel
  • Sold yearlings up to $400,000 at the Magic Millions January sale

He has had a great start to his stallion career and many astute buyers have purchased his progeny.

The dam of this filly is Sonnenblume, a winning daughter of champion sire Exceed and Excel. Sonnenblume is a daughter of Group 1 winner Shindig and a three-quarter sister to our former Group1 winner Shinzig and listed winner Strada. At Stud, Sonnenblume has a 3yo (Sebring filly) trial winner in the stable of James Cummings and a 2yo Manhattan Rain filly with John Hawkes and our colt is her third foal. Sonnenblume is closely related to Group 2 winner Cobbora, Group 3 winner Bush Honey and Listed winner Interest Only.

The colt was purchased at the recent Magic Millions yearling sale. He is now spelling at Yulong Farm before being broken in by Nathan Dunn.

Ownership opportunities include purchase price and GST, all vet examinations and Matchem DNA testing, transport from the sale in Melbourne, 12 months mortality insurance and $10,000 emergency surgery cover and breaking in with Nathan Dunn.
